What is the difference between Mechanical Engineering Technology and Mechanical Engineering

I am graduating from a 2-year MET program this May and was wondering a few things..

I'm considering going to a four year college for ME, after talking to the chair I should only have to go for 3 years with my current credits. On the other side of things my 2-year college has a joint program with a university for a BS EMET degree. It should be noted that both schools are ABET accredited.

So my main questions:

Is it worth it to switch to ME and stay in school another 3 to 3-1/2 years? Or should I stick with the technology side?

Would a graduate of either program still be considered an Engineer?

Do both degrees attain the same amount of respect?

What are the pros/cons of either degree?

The deadline is getting pretty close to apply so I am really hoping for an answer in the near future.

Update 1: Also, I am very interested in pursuing y acedemic career past a Bachelors. This is one reason why I'm finding ME to be an attractive option.
