I need help with some biology questions:

1. Glycolysis is said to take place in an anaerobic environment.



What is the meaning of this statement?



How can this fact be use as supportive evidence that glycolysis is one of the earliest biochemical pathways to evolve?





2. All of the glycolysis reactions take place in the cytoplasm; none is associate with an organelle or membrane structure.

3. Why does glycolysis take place even now, since its energy yield in the absence of oxygen is so much less than that of the processes that are aerobic?
