AP Biology Question?! Sickle-cell?

Heterozygotes at the sickle-cell locus produce both normal and abnormal (sickle-cell hemoglobin. When hemoglobin molecules are packed into the red blood cells of a hetero-zygote individual, some cells receive a relatively large quantity of abnormal hemoglobin, which makes these cells prone to "sickling". Explain how these molecular and cellular events lead to emergent properties at the individual and population levels of biological organization.

I'm not asking for you to do my homework for me, I'm just asking for key points I should mention in my answer as well as a very brief explanation. Thank you!
