I have the following homework question:

"Reduction of an aldose with sodium borohydride yields an alditol.

a) Is the alditol resulting from the reduction of D-glucose optically active?

b) Is the alditol resulting from the reduction of D-arabinose optically active?"

How do I determine the answers to these, and what do I need to know to understand it?
