My Chemistry question? help please!!

So this might be a silly question, but I haven't taken chemistry in about 3 years and I'm now taking it again in high school for my major and I'm doing a review assignment online, however I'm confused about the chemical formula for zinc bromide?

How am I supposed to know that it's ZnBr(2) if they don't actually indicate that the charge of Zn is 2+? You know, if it says zinc (II) bromide then I would understand WHY it's ZnBr(2) but, if it doesn't is that just a memorization thing?
