Help with these 2 problems?



Been trying to figure this out for some time. Would like some external input on it.

1. A cart rolls across a table two meters in length. Half of the length of the table is covered with felt, which slows the cart with a constant acceleration. Where should the felt be placed so that the cart crosses the table in the least amount of time?

2. A mass of 0.5kg moves on a horizontal plane. The mass is originally located at the point x = 3, y = 1 (a) If the mass has a velocity of 2m/s in the y direction, where is the mass 3 seconds later? (b) What constant velocity must the mass have that it reaches the point (1,6) when t = 4 seconds?
