Butadiene is prepared by the gas phase catalytic dehydrogenation of 1• butene, at 900 K and pressure = 1.0 bar. At 900K, equilibrium constant is K=0.242 bar.
C4H8(g)=>C4H6(g) + H2(g)
(a) In order to suppress side reactions, the butene feed stream is diluted with steam before It enters the reactor. Estimate the equilibrium composition for a feed consisting of 10 moles of steam per mole of 1-butene.
(b) Find the equilibrium composition of the mixture in the reactor if the steam was absent.
(c) Find the total pressure that would be required to obtain the same conversion as in (a) if no steam was present.
