1) Water at 20°C flows through a capillary tube with an inside radius of 0.17 mm and a length of 5.9 cm. If the volume flow rate through the capillary is 1.9 cm3/s, what is the pressure difference between the two ends of the capillary? Give your answer in kPa. The viscosity of water at 20°C is 1.0 x 10-3 Pa s.

2) A pipe carries water horizontally at a pressure of 1.6 atm, with the water flowing at a speed of 2.0 m/s. The water is then to be diverted downwards and continue through a horizontal pipe, but now underneath the ground as shown in the picture below. If the width of the pipe remains constant, and the pipe can withstand a pressure of 4.2 atm, how far down (relative to its starting position) could the lower segment be placed? Give your answer as a positive value in m (don t include a sign). Note that the density of water is 1000 kg/m3, and that 1 atm = 101.3 kPa.

3) The density of a fish can be found by weighing in air and then again with the fish completely submerged in water. If a fish weighs 165.0 N in air, and the same scale reads 16.0 N when the fish is submerged, what is the density of the fish in g/cm3? (Assume the water has a density of 1.00 g/cm3.)

4) Water is flowing through a pipe at a speed of 2.7 m/s (labelled as v1 below). The pipe has a cross-sectional area of 0.02 m2. It then splits so that it flows through two identical pipes, each of which has a cross-sectional area of 0.038 m2. At what speed (in m/s) does the water flow through the larger pipes?
