Chemistry help?

I have 3 questions in chemistry that I have to answer, but i'm confused on how to answer them. If you could please help me out I would appreciate it :)

1) How can a molecule that has only 2 atoms bonded to the central atom have a tetrahedral electronic geometry?
2) The "octet" rule appears to be a very important rule governing the structures of molecules. Provide a simple explanation for the importance of 8 electrons.
3) Why do scientists try to visualize the model of molecules? How is this helpful?
