E, Z configuration in organic chemistry question?

E, Z configuration in organic chemistry question?



Since yahoo answers won't let me post the picture of the molecule I will just have to explain it. I'm not too good with making. 

Well it's an alkene with 2 carbons. 

To the carbon on the left of the double bond.. 
H3CH2C is at the top 
H3C is at the bottom 

To the carbon on the right side of the double bond... 
Ph is at the top 
CH3 is at the bottom 

On my exam I put "NEITHER E or Z" because I thought for EZ confuguration you had to have four different molecules attached to the double bond. 

The answer is Z. Why is it Z? 14:03:00
