Would it be frowned upon to switch majors from Mechanical Engineering to Computer Science?



I selected when applying for college that I wanted to enroll in mechanical engineering, but soon after I wanted to do computer science instead. Problem is the college accepted me in it's college of engineering, and now my parents say that it would be frowned upon to switch degrees from mechanical engineering at all, much less than wanting to switch before I've even started it. I can understand it being ridiculous to switch before even taking a semester, but switching at all?
