Oligosaccharides
Oligosaccharides are polymers of monosaccharides containing two to ten residues. They are obtained upon hydrolysis of polysaccharides. The most commonly occurring oligosaccharides are disaccharides, such as maltose, sucrose, lactose and cellobiose, which are obtained as breakdown products of large polysaccharides.
Trisaccharide and Oligosaccharide
There are few trisacchaides occurring as natural sugars. One example is raffinose, found in many plants. oligosaccharides are generally not found as naturally occurring sugars. They are, however produced as hydrolysis products of polysaccharides.
