Qualitative Analysis
Qualitative Analysis deals with the determination of the nature of the constituents of a given material The procedure employed to find out the elements present in a given substance depends upon te nature of the substance, that is, whether the substance is organic or inorganic. In accordance with the syllabus, herein we shall only discuss the procedure and theoretical background f qualitative analysis of inorganic compounds.
Since an inorganic salt is composed of two radicals or ions, namely, electropositive radical or cation and electronegative radical or anion, therefore, the two types of ions are found out by following a systematic procedure involving the following steps:
(a) Dry tests for cations or basic radicals
(b) Dry tests for anions or acid radicals
(c) Confirmatory tests for anions or acid radicals
(d) Confirmatory tests for cations or basic radicals
