Earth as a Magnetized Sphere

The earth behaves as a magnetized sphere. At places on the magnetic equator, the angle of dip of zero. At the magnetic poles, the angle of dip is 90^o. The magnetized sphere behaves as if a magnet is placed at the centre of the sphere. The magnetic field on the surface of the earth is in general similar to a bar magnet placed at its centre. The axis of the magnet makes an angle of 17^o with the axis of rotation of the earth.
