Lines of Magnetic Flux

Magnetic lines of force is defined as the curve along which a unit N-pole would move if free to do so, when placed in a magnetic field. The tangent to these curves at any point gives the direction of magnetic field at that point.

Characteristics of lines magnetic flux: Each line of magnetic flux forms a closed loop, as shown by dotted lines in. This means that a line of flux emerging from any

point at N-pole end of a magnet passing through the surrounding space back to the S-pole end and is then assumed to continue through the magnet to the point at which it is emerged at the N-pole end.

(i)    The lines of magnetic flux never intersect.
(ii)    Lines of magnetic flux tend to contract length wise and repel another sideways.
(iii)    Lines of force emanate from and terminate on a surface normally.
