Resistance

Resistance may be defined as that property of a substance which opposes the flow of an electric current through it.

The practical as well as m.k.s. (or S.I.) unit of resistance is ohm, which is defined as that resistance between two points of a conductor which a potential difference of one volt, applied between these points, produces in this conductor a current of one ampere, the conductor not being a source of any e.m.f.

The International ohm is the resistance of mercury of mass 14.4521 grams of uniform x-section and of length 106.300 cm offered to passage of an unvarying current at a temperature of melting ice.
