Froude’s Model Law
The law in which models are based on Froude Number is called as Froude’s model law.
Whenever gravity forces are predominant over other forces for dynamic similarity, the Froude number for the model must be equal o Froude number for prototype.
(Fr)prototype = (Fr)model
Vp / √ gp Lp = Vm / √ gm Lp
It the place of model and prototype is same, then gm = gp
Vp / √ Lp = Vm / √ Lm
Vp / Vm x 1/ √ Lp / Lm = 1
Vp / Vm = √ Lp / Lm
Vp / Vm = √Lr
Vr = √Lr
Time scale ratio
Tr = Tp / Tm = (L/V)p / (L/V)m = Lp / Lm x Vm / Vp
= Lr 1/ √ Lr
Tr = √ Lr
Acceleration scale ratio
ar = ap / am = (V / T)p / (V / T)m = Vp / Tp x Tm / Vm
= √ Lr x 1/ Lr
ar = 1
Discharge scale ratio
Qr = Qp / Qm = (L3 / T)p / (L3 / T)m = (Lp / Lm)3 x (Tm / Tp) = Lr3 . 1/ √Lr
Qr = Lr5/2
Force scale ratio
Fr = Fp / Fm = ρp Lp2 Vp2 / ρm Lm2 Vm2
Fr = ρp / ρm x (Lp / Lm)2 x (Vp / Vm)2
If the fluid used in model and prototype is same, then
ρp / ρm = 1
Fr = (Lp / Lm)2 x (Vp / Vm)2 = Lr2 x (√ Lr)2 = Lr2 . Lr
Fr = Lr3
Pressure scale ratio
Pr = Pp / Pm = ρp Vp2 / ρm Vm2
Pr = Vp2 / Vm2 = Vp2 / Vm2 = ( Vp / Vm)2
Pr = Lr
