There can be two basic type of hypothesis, viz., (i) descriptive and (ii) relational.

Descriptive hypothesis concerns the existence, size, form or distribution of some concept subject to verification. Concepts presented may take on two or more values. For example, “Over half of Golden Eagle Beer sales is tow the university students”. Descriptive hypothesis in question form becomes. “ Is over half of Golden Eagle Beer sales to university students?”

Relational Hypothesis are proposed in order to test the relationship or Linkage between two variables. For example. “High consumption of Golden Eagle Beer among university students is a result of heavy sales promotion directed to this market segment.” This involves a relationship between two variables namely, consumption and sales promotion.
